Key Largo Florida is also known as the "Diving Capital of the World".

Key Largo Florida is not only known for Bogart and Bacall, or Bertie Higgins!

It’s the northernmost island, and is a great place to start your tour of the keys.

The island's name is derived from the Spanish word “Largo” which means large. It is the longest and largest island of the Florida Keys.

The weather here is usually nice all year! The winter months are usually between 60° F – 75° F, with the summer months ranging from 75° F - 89° F. This climate is perfect for all sorts of outdoor activities.

The Diving here is some of the best in the world, which is why in February of 2002, internationally renowned conservationist Jean-Michel Cousteau chose John Pennekamp Park for his first Florida Keys diving experience.

This area of land and sea will provide underwater explorers access to North America’s only living coral barrier reef located at John Pennekamp Park.

John Pennekamp Park not only has great diving opportunities, but offers everything from beach access, fishing, camping, picnicking, scuba tours, glass bottom boat tours, and much much more.

There are also excellent diving opportunities at the Spiegel Grove, a 510 foot sunken navy ship that now serves as an artificial reef, so make sure to book your next trip with one of many qualified scuba charters.

Feeling lucky? Key Largo along with the rest of the Keys has excellent fishing opportunities.

You might want to try your luck and book a Deep Sea Fishing Charter with an experienced captain to take you out for a spin.

If you have your heart set on reeling in the catch of a lifetime, I highly recommend hiring a local charter.

The islands close proximity to the Everglades National Park make eco-tours exciting prospects, and kayakers with a love for the environment can be seen paddling all around the lush marshland.

Hotels in Key Largo Florida are plentiful!

They range from the more upscale like the Marriott and Hilton Resorts, to the lower scale but still very nice and affordable Holiday Inn Key Largo.

Make sure to check in advance for reservations, as rooms down here can fill up fast.

There are also many popular restaurants like Sundowners, The Fish House, and Ballyhoos to name a few.

I highly recommend "The Fish House"! If you want a great food and a true feel of the Florida Keys, this is the place to be.

Whether Key Largo is your first stop on your way to Key West, or your destination of choice, you’re sure to have a memorable experience.
